Everybody's Fine

It's 4:30 in the morning and I can't sleep. I woke up at 2:00 for some reason and the hubby was still working on his ingrown toe nail and surfing the web. Last night was one of the first nights I didn't wait up for him. It was probably a good thing to do because I don't think I would have lasted until 2 AM.
I've been having some pretty vivid and wild dreams lately. Last week, the dreams were really quite horrifying. Luckily, this week they are quite pleasant or just plain bazaar. Last night, I dreamed I was a cross country trainer and I dreamed about all the different exercises involved with each of the major muscle groups and I was circuit running and doing all these exercises in between. It was really refreshing to be running around and being super in tune with my body and I had no pain ever, exhilarating at first. I remember my assistant telling me that half the group was leaving, one by one, because the workout was either too challenging or too dull. I remember being lost and confused and worried that all the rest of my team was going to leave.
I think this dream could definitely mirror my life. I'm worried about someone that I love very much, actually that I love the most of all people on Earth, worried about them not being honest with me for so long that they just give up or leave and I am completely in the dark. I don't have a clue how to help them. Perhaps my suspicions are unfounded. It sort of reminds me of the movie "Everybody's Fine" that we saw recently where a father goes to see his adult kids as a surprise and finds out they've been lying to him about how they've been doing just to make him happy and proud.
I feel incredibly sad and deceived just like the father in that movie, but I hope that the ending is just as good or better where he accepts his kids how they are and decides that everybody really is fine because they finally get together around the dinner table at Christmas.

It's girl season.

We went to the 19 week ultrasound and found out SHE is doing well. We're having a girl!

The Hubby says this kid is the quintessential cute kid with the overalls on. I love my boy.

I made these cloth diapers after really wanting to convert, but not being able to handle the safety pins despite my best efforts. We'll see how they work. These are the prototype to test on KC. If it works, I'll make a bunch more for the new baby.

"Great Stone Dragon, have you awakened?"

I can not find the camera to get some new pictures to go with my post. I think the spouse has it somewhere. Well, it may be time to come out of winter hibernation. KC and I went to the Zoo today. He was more responsive than ever before and it was really quite fun. His favorite animal of the day was..I forget the name..,but they looked like a cross between a baby deer and a rabbit. He kept escaping my hand to run back to the deer-rabbit enclosure. My favorite, ever since the show "Meerkats" on TLC, has been the meerkats. They've separated the mating pair from the grown pups so there are now two locations to see meerkats. The mother meerkat seems a lot more at ease now. Last time she was pawing profusely at certain spots on the glass as to say, "get me out of here, these pups are driving me crazy."
I also made dinner from scratch, got KC ready for bed by myself since the husband is staying late at school tonight, and washed the dishes and swept the kitchen floor. I think that constitutes waking from hibernation. I feel pretty good about what I accomplished today.
I do feel a little sad that the hubby had already eaten pizza when I was going to bring him a dinner that I had put quite a bit of effort into. I put the leftovers in the fridge after KC and I ate. Maybe the hub will enjoy the leftovers tomorrow for lunch. It has been a long day, but I can be independent. Haven't seen the other half since Seven O'clock this morning. I think I'll go to bed now and wish him a good day tomorrow morning.

Technical Savvy

I recently commented on someone's facebook post about technical language and how and when to use it. A family member jotted off about C++ computer programming, .find and such and such commands, and finding the last occurance. This family member also commented that most people don't understand when he talks computers..and I responded, "Don't be so hot on yourself. Doctors, lawyers and scientists use technical terms with others to make themselves look smart all the time, when actually they're just lazy. They also leave out information to confuse others. For example, the last occurance of what? It actually takes brains to translate technical language into common language and it's also courteous to think about your audience."
Many people do not pay attention to their audience(s). A class I took on Teaching Biology taught me something about technical language and directing audiences. We use technical language for perhaps two reasons, it's faster to say or it makes us sound more intelligent than others. The word tachycardia has five syllables and means rapid heart rate, which has only 4 syllables. The word Tachycardia is an example of a word that doctors use to make themselves sound smarter than their patients, it certainly is not faster to say.
So the question is when is it apropriate to use technical language? My answer is consider your audience. It may be faster to speak technically with your colleagues, but it certainly should not be used to lose your audience out of laziness or pride. Human Beings want to make connections. Facilitate those connections. Live in harmony.
My husband has been reading a book, "Revising Pros", that teaches a several step process to simplify or turn technical language into common language that everyone can understand. My point is it is not always easy to translate our technical terms into common language. It takes brains, but it's the polite thing to do. Now that's what I call technical savvy 101.

Uniqueness

Let me clarify what I mean by my not being unique. Any one particular event or experience that we have is not unique. Someone else in the world has experienced it. What is unique is our collection of events or experiences that we have over a life time. I don't want to depress anyone by saying they are not unique.
