He climbs!

He doesn't walk without support, yet, but he climbs. One second he was standing next to the plastic tub, the next he was standing on the tub reaching for things on top of the book shelf.

Who knew artichokes were so tasty..and a prize at the end.

My first experience with whole artichokes was fantastic.

First Time in the Pool

No Fear what so ever. He splashed and blew bubbles and had a good time, until he started shivering. It's amazing he lasted that long. The water was frigid. I think he stayed in the pool longer than I did. He'll be swimming like a fish before too long. we just need to find a warmer pool. Maybe it will warm up mid-summer.

Procreation and associated challenges

I have a friend/acquaintance that has been trying to get pregnant for two years and she's had some associated medical emergencies and emotional issues having to do with, I think, the environment here in the married student village where there are so many pregnant mamas and several little tykes running around.(It's pretty overwhelming/ strips away any unique-ness you thought you had.) I have another friend who's expecting her second unexpected child in a marriage of just two years. She took it hard at first, but now they are happy, what else is there to do?
I admire both friends, not because they overcame their difficulties, which is yet to be determined, but because I like to be around them both and I see similarities between us. We're all trying to take control of our lives, but we're doing it in different ways. Three people and a union that could exist, but doesn't as of yet..all three of us wanted to have kids eventually. The one that wasn't able to concieve, has wanted to for some time, but she is a strong woman. The one that had a surprise baby and another one on the way takes life as it comes and she has more faith in life. I have a lot to learn from these women.
My baby was also a surprise and I worried myself sick about it until...well, I think the worry is still with me. I worry that I could become pregnant again, regardless of countless birth control measures, or is that better than becoming infertile or getting cancer or something else from extended use of chemical contraceptives or other devices. It's too bad that abstinence really doesn't work anymore, contrary to what I learned in 7th grade health class. The possiblity of getting pregnant again is a constant fear and it's not healthy.
What I hope to learn from my friends is that God sometimes has different plans for us than we have ourselves. I want to be strong and take life as it comes. I think this is more complicated for women than for men. The business of Procreation is a tough one.

inch by inch, row by row

gonna'make this garden grow. we planted our little community garden plot on Saturday. Lettuce, melons, beans, squash, green onions and peas. I grew some tomato plants from seed and they were getting to be fairly big and I was really excited to grow my first tomatoes from seed. I was tempering them outside for the second time in the week. They were probably out in the sun too long. When I went out to get them after 4 hours, they looked like popcorn...like someone sprayed them with herbiside, all white and sort of shriveled. The soil was still moist so they didn't dry up. Oh well, this is not the year that I will plant tomatoes from seed, maybe next year. To the nursery I go..

school's out for summerdadadada..dadada.da.da.da

Spring Semester 2009 has been a real emotional roller coaster. Hurray for summer. I'm tired of being sick. Having one more person in this house with a weaker immunity has really brought on the bugs that come with living in a city. We just pass sickness back and forth and never really overcome it. Maybe that's another reason why people in the city tend to have less kids. Hopefully this summer we'll be healthier. I swear I didn't have this problem growing up in a rural community. Dave and I currently have a head cold, not serious, but we hope that the bug that KC just recovered from gave him the right kind of immunity to withstand what we're carrying. Time outside might also help decrease the disease virility in our apartment. Happy Summer days- Kris
